Businesses in Sioux Falls are seeing an uptick in counterfeit bills
Sioux Falls Police Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said four cases of fake bills were reported on Monday. He said two women tried to use fake money while in drive-thrus at two different McDonalds locations. A man also attempted to purchase a prepaid debit card with four fake $100 bills at a Dollar General store.
Clemens said that employees at the three businesses spotted the counterfeit money and the suspects left the scene before officers arrived.
According to police, Juice Stop was notified by their bank that four fake bills had passed through its stores. Clemens said a person also came forward after receiving a fake bill for a pair of shoes.
Local detectives are working with the U.S. Secret Service to investigate the rash of fake money. Clemens said police are not sure if the cases are related.
Police also reported several cases on Monday. Investigators are working to see if the cases are connected.
