We have new information on a central Sioux Falls shooting, including an arrest.
Police say it all started with a fight between two men, possibly over a woman. While the incident happened just before noon, police weren't able to make an arrest until Tuesday morning.
Police took 29-year-old Herman Motley III into custody at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. They caught up with him at a friend's house at 16th Street and Spring Avenue. He appeared in court on a long list of felony charges, including aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted violent offender.
Police say they were able to locate Motley after they got a license plate number and a name from witnesses to a shooting on South Euclid Avenue.
"What we learned that there was a fight that had taken place, primarily between two men who knew each other," Sioux Falls Police Information Officer Sam Clemens said.
Police say that's when Motley became even more violent.
"The suspect went back to his car, grabbed a handgun, shot that a couple of times in the air and everybody kind of scattered from there," Clemens said.
Authorities say Motley left the scene as well, driving off in a car. But they say he later returned and fired even more shots at the house, hitting it at least twice. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Police say they found a 9 mm handgun at the home where Herman was arrested. They believe that is the gun he used in Monday's shooting. Herman, who spent time in prison for drug charges, remains in jail.
