Hundreds of Sioux Falls residents are feeling the heat this June. High temps are stressing out air conditioning units causing some to deal with hot homes this week.
Trisha and Tim Tigert just moved in to this central Sioux Falls home. While it's new to them, some of the older parts, like the air conditioning unit, are in need of repair.
"It's been out for almost a week and it's been about 85 in our house the past couple of nights," Trisha Tigert said.
The Tigerts have been trying to hang out at other places while they wait for a fix. Today a repairman fit them into his busy schedule.
Holsen: I mean are the phones ringing off the hook?
Lamb: Off the hook. We probably average a phone call every minute. It's unbelievable when we have high temperatures like this.
As more and more people turn on their units this summer, problems are beginning to arise and that's an almost overwhelming amount of business for Frisbee.
"Head to the lower level in your home where it's cooler and be patient. We're really struggling. Our guys are working really hard and doing our best to try and get there. Just have a nice demeanor because we're just trying our best to get there and it's just hard to get everyone satisfied," Lamb said.
While it looks like the Tigerts will need a brand new air conditioner, today's a special day and they're not going to let this problem get in the way.
Tim Tigert: It's our two-year anniversary with my wife so we're going go and take a little trip.
Holsen: And buy an air conditioner...
Tigert: And buy an air conditioner on top of it. It's an expensive date today.
One I'm guessing will end with a cold ice cream dessert to help take their minds off the heat.
Frisbee says two repairmen responded to more than 40 calls this weekend. Lamb says you should pull your shades on the west side of your house during the day to help ease the stress on your air conditioner.
