Police don't have any suspects in custody in this latest case and they're taking note of the uptick in numbers. Officers are working overtime to get the suspects behind bars.

Andrew Thompson lives right across the street from where Friday morning's shooting happened. He says he watched the scene unfold from his bedroom window.

"I heard about eight-gun shots. it concerned me because it sounded like fire crackers," Thompson said.

When cops arrived, they found casings near the building and bullet holes riddled through the victim's car. While no one was hurt, the suspect is still at-large. This is the 5th shooting in the city in less than a month. Police say they're working to stop the trend from continuing.

"I'm not going to accept the fact that this is a new normal... not at all... we do have our investigative teams, our narcotics teams, our crimes against persons teams working to identify who the suspects are," said police chief Matt Burns.

Police suspect drugs could tie all the cases together. While they haven't made any arrests yet, they don't believe the shootings are random.

"It appears that most often, the suspects knew each other, or had some idea of what this was about. Due to the fact that that's the case and these are isolated, this isn't an overall threat to the city," Burns said.

Thompson's not convinced.

"I don't feel safe when there's stuff like that going on," Thompson said. "Sioux Falls used to be a peaceful and family oriented place, now it's kind of scary. You don't know what's going to happen next or where the next thing is going to go."

Officials say the investigations are running into some road blocks. In many of the cases, the victim's don't want to open up about why they may have been targeted.
