Some future business owners got their creative juices flowing, as the city of Yankton hosted its first startup event.

Nineteen-year-old Rayden Terca has always dreamed of being his own boss.

"From a young age, I've always been a very business-minded person," Terca, participant, said.

He and his team members are just a step away from running their own business.  They're fighting to the finish, hoping to create a website that will make 3D printing more affordable and easier to use.

“Our company R-3D plans on helping the average consumer by making a simple and easy way of downloading 3D printer designs," Terca said.

Seventy soon-to-be entrepreneurs are working hard to come up with unique ideas for Yankton's first startup competition. Seven teams are given just three days to come up with solid business plans, and a local business plans to make the best plan a reality.

“That investor group actually has $100,000 earmarked for a big idea that's ready to be based right here in Yankton,” Tony Maibaum, Event Coordinator, said.

That's why Terca and his team members have been working around the clock to perfect their plan.

“So we stayed up until 4:30 in the morning Friday night just coming up with all the ideas, trying to get a nice basic platform," Terca said.

Although winning is his main goal, he says it's been great meeting up with like-minded people. No matter what, he has faith in knowing his team's startup will go far in the future.

"So even if we don't win today, that doesn't stop us. We're going to continue working on this website," Terca said.

Event staff said they're hoping to make the startup an annual event in Yankton.
