Court documents filed on Tuesday say 30-year-old Matthew Mathern is charged with aggravated assault, child abuse and aggravated eluding.
Police say he used a gun to hold a 10-year-old child hostage at the Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield.
The hospital was locked down for several hours.
The boy was eventually released safely.
