The Sioux Falls Area Humane Society is preparing for their biggest fund-raising event of the year. Paws to Celebrate takes place this weekend, and it's a unique event you won't fur-get.
Looking into the eyes of a dog, or cat, at the shelter without taking one home can be tough. However, a weekend event could be your chance to help out these homeless pets.
"It's a big auction and wine tasting event, and this year we have some really premium items included in our auction," Malorie Adamson, Marketing and Community Outreach Coordinator for Sioux Falls Area Humane Society, said.
The Paws to Celebrate event this Saturday features live music, spirits and a unique collection of auction items.
"Things like a Bruce Springsteen signed electric guitar. A Garth Brooks acoustic guitar. We have a trip to Napa Valley. A trip to Orlando, Florida, and Sydney, Australia," Adamson said.
If you're looking for something more rugged, you can find a Mike Tyson signed boxing glove and a signed photograph of Al Pacino.
This elaborate affair is to support the Humane Society throughout the year. Money raised goes into the general fund, for expenses like food, beds and medical bills.
"Spring is coming up, and we really start to fill up. Especially with cats. Pregnant moms with litters and things like that. Trips to the vet and things like that can be very spendy," Adamson said.
If you can't spend the $60 for a ticket to Paws to Celebrate, the Humane Society is always looking for foster care, volunteers and a place for the pets to call home.
"All they really want is some love and attention. The best possible thing for them is to get adopted. If you're looking for an animal, come on out and see what we have. We have a lot of great animals looking for a home here," Adamson said.
