The Summit League tournament isn't the only sporting event making headlines in KELOLAND this year. Two new tournaments will also stop in Sioux Falls.
"I think we're ready to bring these tournaments come to town even though I'm a little anxious to have them come as well," Miller said.
With barely more than three weeks under his belt, Sioux Falls Sports Authority Executive Director Bryan Miller is anxiously looking ahead to the month of March.
His office has been working constantly to prepare for the month ahead. The first test will come on March 5th as the Summit League Tournament kicks off in Sioux Falls.
Although, the real madness in the city will begin this weekend. The NSIC basketball championships will be at the Sanford Pentagon for the second year in a row.
Executive Director of Operations Jesse Smith says after the champions are crowned, the Pentagon is hoping to add one more tournament to their calendar.
"We're hopeful to squeeze in or to be selected as a regional site for the NCAA Division II Men's basketball tournament, too. So we're holding out hope that we're selected for that as well," Smith said.
Smith says with the success of local teams, hosting a regional game would be one more high-level tournament for the city.
"We were lucky enough to host it last year and we saw huge crowds. It's not on the level of the Summit League but we have capacity crowds and excited fan basis that come out to see those games," Smith said.
Following both conference championships, the NCAA Division II wrestling national championship and the Division II women's basketball Elite Eight will be held in Sioux Falls.
That's all before the biggest tournament the city has seen hits the court at the Denny Sanford Premiere Center.
Sioux Falls will be one of four regional sites across the country to host a NCAA Division I women's basketball regional.
"This one's the big one. I mean this is definitely a large tournament. We'll be on national audiences and across the world to be honest with you. So, very exciting," Miller said.
And if it all goes smoothly, Miller says this could lead to even more.
" The nice thing is, if these events go well in March I think we have a very good opportunity to bring in the same or even bigger NCAA events in the future," Miller said.
Miller says he'll be busy all summer putting in bids to the NCAA to host more tournaments next year.
