A jury of eight men and six women has been selected to hear the case of an Aberdeen man accused of stabbing a woman to death.

Thirty-four-year-old John Hemminger is charged with murder in the death of 26-year-old Jessica Goebel, who died in January 2015 after authorities say she was stabbed 26 times. He has pleaded not guilty.

Attorneys began the process of reducing a panel of 54 potential jurors on Monday and wrapped up Tuesday morning.

The jury selection is being held in Pierre, where proceedings were moved due to extensive news coverage in the Aberdeen area. The trial will be in Fort Pierre, where the courtroom has more room. There are 38 potential witnesses. Attorney opening statements are set for Wednesday.
