It's fairly common for people to take a part-time job after retirement. However, most don't stick around for 17 years!

As you watch Verna Miller work the crowd at Taco John's on South Minnesota Avenue, you can tell she has a special bond with the people.
Taco John's customer: "I'm just one of the happy customers that always comes in here."
Miller: "Do you really?"
Customer: "Yep."
Miller: "Isn't that wonderful. I'm going to miss you all."
Wednesday, Miller says goodbye to those happy customers as she prepares to retire yet again.
17 years ago, Miller applied for a hostess job at Taco John's after her husband passed away. She was excited and a little surprised to get the gig.
"No, because of my age, but they never asked me my age! Isn't that something," said Miller.
Miller was 77-years-old when she took the job. Now at 94, she says it's time to slow down and let someone else take over.
"I used to go everyday if I wasn't sick. And I loved it. Every bit of it," said Miller.
"She just always wants to go above and beyond and make you have a good time when you come here," said long-time customer, Pat Kruse.
"It's just such a rare personality. It's the thing people have that you can't train. It's kind of a lost art," said Ted Miller, Taco John's President of Operations.
It's a bittersweet day for Miller. While she loves being able to see the customers she got to know so well over the years, it's hard to say goodbye.
"I love people. And I loved having them come see me," said Miller.
Miller says she plans to spend her time knitting and crocheting. She hopes to make it back to the restaurant as much as possible.
