In the wake of recent shootings, people across KELOLAND are showing their support for local law enforcement.

In South Dakota's largest city, community members are offering up messages and gifts to show support for officers. In fact, drive by one Sioux Falls house and you'll see it right on the front lawn. Young minds thought of a way to show their support for local law enforcement.

"We've seen a lot about the shootings and police and stuff and we felt bad that a lot of people were bad-talking police," Cora Siemonsma said.

It's a simple gesture to show appreciation. An officer can simply stop by the house and grab a bottle of water out of a cooler.

"It's kinda nice to hear that the kids came up with this idea on their own; spent the time making the posters. It's something that I think all officers would appreciate," Officer Sam Clemens said.

The curbside display is just one token of gratitude in an outpouring of support from the community recently.

"I think with everything that's been happening across the country, it's really nice to hear that we have the support of Sioux Falls," Clemens said.

If you ask the family behind this front-yard police tribute, that support won't be running out any time soon.

"We like cops and they always help us and they protect us. If we're in a bad situation anywhere, we can just call them," Sarah Westendorf said.

"We just want them to know that people are still out here supporting them and thanking them and what they do means a lot to us," Siemonsma said.

Clemens says community members have shown their support in many ways including social media messages, letters, and even cookies.
