A man who has worked as the city's Community Development Director is taking on a new challenge.
Darrin Smith is the new president at the Washington Pavilion. Smith became Community Development Director six years ago. Prior to that he served on the Sioux Falls City Council and as the Senior Director of Advocacy and State Health for the American Heart Association.
At Wednesday's announcement, Smith said he is honored to accept the position. He called the Washington Pavilion a landmark in the community and surrounding region.
"The Pavilion is at the top of a short list of truly special places," Smith said.
When asked about what areas he'd like to focus on as president, Smith pointed to the Washington Pavilion's online presence and other customer service-related areas as a first priority.
The former city council member says he's excited to start work next month, and says the Pavilion has a bright future.
"When I go in something, I'm in 1000 percent," Smith said. "I'm really looking forward to it."
A search committee made the announcement on Wednesday. They started working to find replacements for co-presidents Larry Toll and Scott Peterson when Toll retired in September 2015 and Peterson announced plans to step down next month.
